I was divinely blessed to hear Pandit Jasraj at Bangalore's Chowdaiah Hall on the 30th january, 2011. Panditji who turned 84 a couple of days earlier enthralled the audience begining with recitals on Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva. The sanskrit slokas of Devi Stuthi and verses from Devi mahatmyam were rendered in such a manner that the entire audience got elevated to different sublime levels, immersed in Bhakti ras!! It was fun when Pandit Jasraj sang Happy Birthday in English to Gurumata Amma who celebrated her birth Day on that day! She refused to talk and chose to hear the mastero sing!! He was accompanied by accomplished artistes including Master Shashank on the flute. The entire programme was so captivating with Pandit's mastery over the Surs and Kalpana aalaap!! Raga Darvari brought tears arising out of Bhakthi Bhav. No doubt, Pandit Jasraj is no human but an incarnation of some divine, godly soul that could spread a feeling of happiness in all those who had gathered to hear the great human being! May god bless the great singer with many more years of reverberating performances that will fill the minds and hearts with absolute joy and happiness!!
Chowdaiah hall in Bangalore has maintained the ambiance and the sound system well since the past several years. The seating arrangements were meticulous and persons sitting in any of the rows could see the performing artiste and enjoy the evening of music.
The weather of Bangalore and the participating audience deserves compliments as it enhances the concept behind such programmes.
The final rendition of Pandit "Om Namo Bhagavathe Vasu devaya" is still ringing in the ears and the divinity touched heights when the audience joined him clapping to the beats and chanting the great sloka along with the artiste! It was a programme worth the life as it ushered in new rays of energy into one's inner soul.
