Suggestion not to keep sentenced convicts in the same geographical area of crime.

Balwant Singh Rajoana (Photo: Rajesh Sachar)
The Indian security men do a good job in nabbing persons who are terrorists or assassins and produce them before the Judiciary for making judgement.  The judiciary takes its own time to process the case and finally convicts with pronounced judgements. It takes nearly decades for the judiciary to come to an assessment and awarding punishments during which time the convicts are housed in jails enjoying the hospitality of the state without having to work or earn!  Convicts like Afzal Guru, Kasab, Rajoana, and the killers of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi are all languishing in jails at the cost of tax payers money and mustering strength through splinter radical groups that raise their head in support of the criminal and the crime committed.  The political parties in India are strange alignments in the sense that they oppose to whatever the ruling party does or says as a matter of rule!  The foul play of politics in brought in at all spheres and levels to oppose whatever the government does!

The Dravidian parties in Tamilnadu spearheaded campaign against capital punishment to the assassins of Rajeev Gandhi and even canvassed and funded legal aid in order to get relief from hanging to death in the famous Vellore Prison.  Today, there is a radical group rising all out in support of Rajoana who is sentenced to death by hanging  for brutally killing the former Punjab CM Beant Singh.  This movement has support from the ruling Akali dal government headed by Badals.  Afzal Guru who was sentenced years back to death by hanging for the Parliament attack is a high profile political prisoner who has managed to capture sympathy of political parties who are opposed to his sentence and have been evading it smoothly.

If all such criminals are allowed to escape the gallows and released after spending a few years in Jail, one wonders as to what is the meaning of Judicial verdict and the sanctity of the courts and law in the country?  This tantamount to encouraging the criminals and justifying their acts of gory?

My suggestion to the government is that the convict should not be allowed to be kept in the same geographical region of crime and should be transferred to a jail which is far stretched from the land that he belongs to.  A convict in Punjab should be jailed and executed in Kerala Prison and the prisoners or convicts of Tamilanadu should be jailed and executed in Punjab or Himachal so that the convict does not muster support or strength during the interim period and stall the entire judicial pronouncements?

The Government is made to look like a non-entity when such things happen and the local politics is seen to rise above the national politics and security of the nation.  The central government must ensure that those who are convicted and sent to gallows are hanged to death upholding the judicial values and also sending a stern warning to those who indulge in such heinous crimes.

President Pratibha Patil- official visits abroad

President Pratibha Patil has visited 22 countries during her tenure that has cost ed the exchequer a whooping sum of Rs 205 crores! she still is left with a 4 month tenure and may cost even more for some more trips abroad.  The President has special air crafts to fly her wherever she wants to along with family members that accompany her adding their burden of boarding and lodging to the state. This is the biggest price tag a President has ever given to the state so far after the independence that India got in the year 1947.

while no one is questioning the President for the numerous trips undertaken by her along with a large contingent of family members and enjoying the hospitality in star hotels and the entire staff of the Indian Missions abroad, one really wonders as to what business has she brought for the country in terms of international trade or forging peace with our neighbours or elsewhere in the world with which mutual trust is built for bilateral trade and business.  The President has to explain to the people, as a matter of good will and courtesy, about the resultant fruits that has been brought into the country through her foreign visits.  when a sales executive working for a company is accountable for his daily work schedule and the business that is brought, why not apply the same yard stick to the Head of the State who has spent such a huge sum of money from the Tax payers money?  It is assumed that the President's visits are not meant for holidaying and cooling the heels in a resort abroad! The accompanying family members also have a responsibility to tell the nation as to how their presence facilitated in profit for the nation?

will the President's office explain this to the people of the country?

Dost dost Naa Raha- Amar Singh & Mulayam singh

The thumping victory of Samajwadi party in the recent U P elections with Akhilesh Yadav as a dynamic youth leader who can take forward the party to achieve its objectives and goals in the coming years.  At the same time, dumping of Amar singh by Netaji has scored points in favour of the party in winning the elections like never before!
Mulayam singh was taken on a joy ride by Amar singh all these years by providing Bollywood heroines to sit on either sides of Netaji and got him confused and attracted towards the glamour world of cinema.  He even managed to sideline the close Muslim leader Azham Khan from Mulayam Singh when he openly stood up against Jayaprada, the yester year actor of Hindi cinema.
wise counsel prevailed upon Mulayan singh when he practically threw Amar Singh from the party and gave the mantle to his worthy son Akhilesh.  Amar singh criticised Akhilesh in more than many ways and even said that he is a school/college drop out and all his degrees were fake or forged.  It is very clear from the turn of events that Amar Singh was merely a power broker and attracted towards cinema and the tinsel world of entertainment.  He remained in limelight only through the film stars that he brought into the party and giving them some kind of position whereby he could always steal the show and remain in the forefront by posing for photos along with them.  He tried his best to romp in Aishwarya Rai in many ways and methods but ended up in failure as she was totally insulated by both the senior and the junior Bachan.  This might have created some heart burns for Amar singh and probably could be the cause for the distance that developed between him and the Bachan family. However, the senior Bachan was magnanimous to visit Amar singh in the hospital when he was bedridden for certain ailments.
The political scenario in U.P has changed and it has become a known fact that Samajwad Party headed by Mulayam singh and his political heir Akhilesh have regained their lost majority and support of the people and will never regret dumping of Amar singh and taking back the popular Muslim Leader in Azham Khan along with them due to which the entire Muslim vote came back to SP sidelining the congress!
Amar Singh may try and come back to the party adopting all means and methods and could even beg forgiveness but the stalwarts of SP should understand that the win could also be because of the ouster of Amar singh from the party and should never succumb to the pleas and explanations of Amar Singh.
Amar singh must realise that his time is up and can not play politics with Jayaprada and other actors of Bollywood and hoodwink the people by all means?

noise pollution on the rise in Chennai

There has been a steady increase in the number of vehicles plying on the roads of Chennai without sufficient infra-structure development to allow such vast number of private, commercial and government vehicles.  Added to the vows, the MNC offices and the IT hub hire huge buses and tempo travellers to ferry their employees for work and drop them back in their houses.  The city traffic is so dense that there is a speed limit of 40kms/hour for all the vehicles plying on the road, stipulated by the State.

Indian drivers have a bad habit of honking at a given chance and tense up motorists who are lined up ahead! Added to these woes, there has been a steady increase in vehicles fitted with Air-horns which are banned as per the transport laws of the state.  These vehicles fitted with such loud air-horns make motoring difficult for humans.
The vans or the tempo travellers mostly operated by the tourist taxi service suddenly comes besides and honks which tears your ear drums and push you into a state of shock for sometime.  The sudden diversion of mind Will result in fatal accidents.  It is time that the government does something to stop this increasing noise pollution and arrest these rogue drivers and prevent them from causing traffic nuisance to motorists?

Beware of Private insurance players

I bought a second hand car recently. The insurance was covered by Reliance ADA group. I was busy with certain domestic functions and was travelling due to which the renewal of the insurance skipped my mind.  Neither did the insurance got in touch with me for renewal.  When I contacted the insurance company, they insisted that I renew the insurance comprehensively as otherwise they have instructions from their higher ups not to renew it.  When I asked them a simple question that the company did not even bother to send me a reminder or get in touch with me for renewal, how could I trust the company for claims that may arise in the future?  They sales manager Mr Jayaraj who works for Anna Nagar Branch that issued the policy, expressed his inability to renew the car insurance as third party!  When I asked him to give it in writing, he simply refused to do so and said it was not company's policy to renew the existing policy into a third party policy!  This argument has no base and does not have the support of IRDA, the authority which controls the insurance players and can act like an Ombudsman.  I contacted New India Assurance company Ltd who are my neighbours on G N Chetty Road, T Nagar, Chennai.  The officer politely refused to renew the insurance cover saying that they have instructions not to accept third party renewals?  This appears to be a joke as the statutory law does not permit to drive the car without a valid insurance and no insurance company is willing to renew the policy as third party!  What should I do is the next question?  I took up the matter with the head office of the New India assurance and also the Reliance ADA.  While the e mail sent to the government owned insurance company got returned undelivered, the Reliance ADA group has a toll free number who are enthusiastic to accept comprehensive renewal but not third party.  The reason for my insistence to renew the policy as third party is because of the experience and fact that the insurance companies do not pay any heed for accident claims and keep you waiting and eventually allow only 1/3rd of your claim stating so many reasons for disallowing the claim.  They do not pay anything for rubber or plastic parts and electrical lights and ask you to pay upfront for repairs and reimburse you a much reduced amount after deductions etc..
The third party insurance is useful if someone is hurt or run over by your car due to accidents which is rare as you drive to reach safe and not to hurt anyone?
I am still driving the car without an insurance cover with a hope that one of these companies will renew my policy as third party soon?
For a country like ours, too much freedom and free market economy does not work or deliver.  Our country is based on socialistic principles and things will be better if controlled by government and not private entrepreneurs!  The government run by the late PM Indira Gandhi is the best module suited for our country.

plight of Airlines Pilots

Airlines like King Fisher and the state owned Air India are not doing well and are facing severe cash and financial crunch due to which they have not been able to pay the salaries of the staff since the past 3 months!  These Airlines are also not coming forward to tell their staff their proposed course of action and the ways devised to get out of this financial mess that they are pushed into.  The pilots and the other staff are looking for absorption in some other airlines for which they require clearance from their present employers.

At the time of joining the airlines, it is mandatory to have identity cards issued for entry and exit out of the airports which are controlled by a special wing of the central police force.  The BCAS is one such wing which issues the identity cards to the operational staff and the pilots of the airlines.

The Pilots and the staff of these airlines are facing a peculiar problem with their respective airlines/employers.  The resignation of the pilots and the operation staff are not being accepted by the airlines citing the mandatory notice period of 6 months.  The staff are agitated as they have not been getting their salary and unable to cope up with routine life due to the cash crunch.  They are unwilling to work for yet another 3 months without getting paid and kept in suspense about the future of the airlines itself.  The catch here is that they have to surrender their identity cards to their employers or the issuing authority which is BCAS, a central Police force.
Both of them are not willing to accept the surrender of identity cards pushing the responsibility on the other.  The pilots and the staff suffer due to this drama since the surrender of I-card is essential to join the other airlines offering them jobs!  It is understandable that the employer would not accept the surrender of I-cards as they do not want to be deserted by their staff.  The BCAS being a central government work force should be magnanimous to accept the surrender of cards by the staff and enable them to pursue their rightful living by joining other institutions that offer them jobs?

I met one pilot who was complaining about the attitude of the chief of BCAS who is a decorated IPS officer who has been trained and given the job to help, assist and protect people! He said that the officer made him wait for several hours before accepting the surrender of I-card only after ranting the  power associated with the seat that he was occupying and saying even IAS officers come and stand in front of him for getting their jobs done!  As a police officer, it does not go well if his head is swollen with such huge EGO??

will the ministry of home affairs, under whom this department functions layout procedures to be followed in these circumstances and counsel the chief of BCAS to adopt a human approach to these problems and try to help and assist the people who are in distress and not to be jealous of the perks and salaries that these persons enjoy?

Car Regn number/Fancy numbers

If you are buying a car and want a fancy number plate of your choice, there is a fee charged by the Regional Transport Authority ranging anything between Rs 5000/- to Rs 50,000/- depending on the popular demand for that specific number! The rules are very strict for the public who are often forced to shell out money to get the number of their choice.

In Chennai, most of the Government owned vehicles have fancy numbers such as the one in the picture above and one really wonders if the Government department also spends that extra money to get these special numbers or is it allotted out of priority? Invariably, all the Government owned vehicles and specially those owned by the bureaucrats occupying important positions, the judiciary and the police officers have this special privilege of having special numbers which are attractive and easy to remember.

There is no harm in extending this privilege to the Government servants but one is entitled to know if they also shell out that extra fee for getting the special numbers?

Can anyone explain?
