Kites- the much awaited Hrithik Roshan movie which failed to fly!

The Punjabis in Delhi, my friends, often used to remark that South Indian girls are HOT!  I used to wonder about this remark and the notions that the North Indians carry about the South Indian girls and women only to understand at a later stage in Life that what they meant was "The grass is green on the other side"?  My schoolmate Vishnu Mohan had a Pen-Pal girl who used to live in Tel-Aviv, Israel and even carried a photo of hers in his wallet and used to flaunt to all the classmates and there was this awe from all the classmates remarking"girls from Israel are conceptual beauties and HOT!"  This wrong notion of ignoring girls from within our own and looking at other pastures trigger a revolt of dislike amongst our own females about the men and resulting in their marriage outside our cultural circles!  The end result is that our boys lose out good looking girls to men outside our cultural frames!

The filmdom is no exception to this and whether its Bollywood or the Kollywood, each one competes to bring in a female actor from a different geographical site to create a new sensation amongst the audience and leave them gasping and in awe!  This film refuses to fly high despite Hrithik who appears in almost all the frames shouldering the entire burden of carrying the film on his strong shoulders!

Rakesh RoshanHrithik's father and the producer could have en cashed his son's popularity after the box-office hit of Jodha-Akbar if only he had really spent some money on the artistes and the sets although he claims to have spent nearly Rs 120 crores in one of his recent Television interviews!  The selection of a Mexican model to star opposite Hrithik who speaks nothing but Spanish and broken English is again to create
an element of awe amongst the audience who are stunned with her statistics and exposure!  Frankly, Kangana Ranaut looks much more attractive and prettier.

The film portrays both the actors clamouring for money and wealth and reach their respective destinations without any problems.  They end up in the opposite direction for the sake of love which was never there and sprouted suddenly out of nowhere?  The Foreign actor crying for her lover boy when he gets wounded in an exchange of fire with the underworld mafia seems very Desi, just to appease the Indian audience!

Hrithik is known for his dancing skills, macho-Rambo image and for is good looks comparable to any Western Hero.  In this film, Hrithik hardly brings out his dancing skills, hardly shows his action-hero footage and to cap it all looks like a beggar in the last minutes of the film which is very important for a box-office formula as the last minute scenes are the ones the audience takes home and ponder about for a long time?
Hrithik jumps off the cliff into the deep sea right underneath making it the best photographed footage in the film rather than evoking compassion!

Rakesh Roshan must not have spent more than 1/10th of what he claims to have spent for the film as he has managed to keep most of the characters that are required in making a film away.  For instance, Hrithik's family is unknown, how he reaches Vegas is a mystery given the stringent Visa rules and regulations imposed by the U S.  He is teaching dance in a school but never shows his dancing skills except in the opening scene of the film for a bare couple of minutes! Kabri Bedi as the owner of a Casino in Vegas is shown with a son and a daughter and obviously the son becomes a villain scouting for a blood bath at any time without reasons? The music by elder brother Rajesh Roshan is absolutely wanting and re-recording should be once again Re-recorded!! Neverthless, he should be congratulated for making a film with just 3 1/2 characters- Hrithik, the villian Tony and the Mexican beauty in Moorie being the main 3 characters!

The entire picture is slower than the Goods-Train and Roshans should be congratulated for putting Hrithik's film career in a pull-back mode specially after the run-away success of Jodha Akbar!  I had a good time looking at some of the prominent film actors who had come to attend the preview of the film!

Act now PC or never?

The havoc and the damage created by the Maoists ad the Naxals are unparalleled in the history of Free India.  The rebels are attacking every government establishment and are openly throwing a challenge in the  open to the government.  As usual, our Home Minister is extending olives and hoping some kind of divine forces will prevail upon the extremists to come around for talks!  Our entire government machinery is weak and the politicians lack courage too tackle an internal problem which has spread its fangs to at least 5 states now.  Time is not far off when it will  fan out to spread in all nearby states leading to anarchy and beyond.  In fact, a few years back when the Naxals came around for talks in Hyderabad, there was a bizarre  show of strength and might by the Naxals in the open when their comrades flashed guns and rifles which were flashed in most newspapers.  The talks failed  and our government, as usual, did not take any proper or timely action.  The results are very obvious now when we see our fellow countrymen and security people being massacred and killed mercilessly in the problem infested areas.  Now is the time to act for our government and they should take lessons from our neighbour Thailand which cracked down on their Red shirt-rebels  and put an end to the episode.

These Maoists started their rebel from Nepal and successfully overthrew the government and the King of Nepal.  There were suggestions from other countries that India should take active interest in Nepal and control the Maoists from taking charge.  India remained a mute spectator whereas our CPM politburo were actively involved in the talks.  Needless to add that the CPM gave full support to the Maoist movement and were happy to install them to rule Nepal.  Little did they realise that Maoists will be a problem for them  even in their own state of W Bengal.  The very fact that the Maoists are targeting Railways goes to prove that they have been directed to do the  damage as Mamta Banerjee is the Railway Minister whose party is slowly gaining control over W Bengal and is expected to gain control of the government in the forthcoming elections. The CPM after parting ways with the Congress in the centre over the Nuclear issue is finding itself in a tight spot.  The trouble that  the Maoists are creating along with Naxals are all engineered and directed by parties with vested interests.  Whether its Maoists or Naxals, both are enemies of the State and  require firm handling by the centre.  Its time our Home minister wakes up and orders complete flush out of the extremists by taking the cabinet into confidence.  With this action, the credibility of the government will also go up in the eyes of the public both within our country and Internationally.

In the meantime Pakistan can sleep well and also have sweet dreams as India is totally engaged within their own problems and sagging morale!

Actor Khushboo joining politics!

This is one gutsy actor who voiced her opinion about pre-marital sex and was haunted by most political outfits and had as many as 22 cases foisted against her.  she was left high and dry by those who were with her in her good times.  She was greeted with chappals and broom sticks by women who were picked by political outfits, wherever she went.  She looked for support from popular film actors and women politicians particularly from Jayalalitha, the former CM of Tamilnadu but none came forward to bail her out and she had to go through horrified times for the past well over 24 months in Tamil Nadu.  Unfortunately, she could not move out of Tamilnadu as she was married to a Tamil actor/director, had her home and children studying at chennai.  Besides, she was featuring in one of the most popular T V shows hosted by Jaya TV and had a five star viewer rating!

The Supreme court dismissed all her cases recently and upheld the freedom of speech.  No women organisation or political party welcomed the ruling in Tamil Nadu and there was absolute silence except for the English T V channels which hailed the ruling and made a celebration!

Immediately the actor announced her intent to join politics and in particular the Congress party to which she had a soft corner.  Barely after her announcement to join poliitics, she fired yet another salvo and this time to join the DMK under the leadership of the veteran M K!  How did the mindset change within a short period is something which the people of Tamil nadu are pondering about.  The entire cabinet was present to witness the starry event of the actor surrendering before the DMK patriarch and presenting a shawl to him to acknowledge him as the supreme leader and to work under his direction!  The news was flashed all over in the mass media and the DMK party felt better with yet another feather added to its cap?  The congress became the loser as it failed to capitalise the statement and announcements made by the actor about her intentions to join the congress.  All said and done, Khushboo will be a great crowd puller wherever she goes in Tamil nadu as there are people who adore her and appreciate her for all her beauty and appeal.  There are temples built in honor of khushboo too!! such is the following she has in the state!  Both the AIADMK and the congress have failed to rope her in and lost a big opportunity to gain in the forthcoming elections of 2011
for the State Assembly.  On the other hand, DMK has been clever enough to bring her into their fold and denying the other political parties the advantage that they could have mustered.  DMK has not gained any advantage out of Khushboo joining them but cleverly thwarted the opposition's dream to acquire this Crowd Puller!!! This is what you term as a seasoned politician- Kalaignar Karunanidhi !!!!!

Ruckus in Tamil Nadu Assembly

The Tamil Nadu Chief minister should take lessons from the Congress leaders and the leaders of the BJP when they meet for a common cause like garlanding Dr Ambedkar on his birthday and remembering him.  The leaders of both the parties were present at the same venue and sharing views and acknowledging the fact that they have assembled for a common purpose!  The photograph was flashed in all newspapers across the country.  The leaders of DMK and the AIADMK are out to kill each other and pray for each other's downfall and ouster from the government!  Yesterday, the chief minister tried to imitate the opposition leader Jayalalitha which is almost like making fun of her which is not in accordance with Parliamentary etiquette and leadership.  On the other hand there is not a single day when the opposition leader calls the ruling government as a Minority government which is unwarranted and does not merit the status of an opposition leader.  When a government is elected to power, there should be some regard and respect paid to the elected government and it is unfair if it is not acknowledged.  The best way to oppose a government is through constructive criticism of policies and economics, if any.  The unelected opposition should wait the full term of 5 years to rejuvenate themselves for the next fight in elections by announcing their policies if elected to power.  Until then, there should be an acceptance and a note of friendliness in all the political parties to support the ruling party which will enable them to concentrate more on development of the State.  Jai Ho !!

India- a powerful service center!

My son bought a Sony DSC T200 digital camera from Frankfurt a couple of years back. The camera is awesome aand takes lovely pics. The lock of the battery compartment got broken one day and there was no one to fix it in chennai. When I approached the Sony centre they said the entire casing has to be changed and that it would cost me Rs 2500/-. when we sent a mail to sony corporation, Japan there was no response  and probably the small business did not attract them even to reply?  I enquired with a local techie in Ritchie street who asked me to put a scotch tape in the area and continue using the camera and asked me to check out after 6 months.  Today, I reminded him in the morning and he charged me a flat Rs900/- to replace the casing and the camera is back to its original condition.  I could not but appreciate the capabilities of these untrained engineers who can repair anything and everything at cheaper rates.  Mera Bharat Mahan!!! Jai HO!!

limiting tenure of the heads of sports bodies in India

Debate: Do they own Indian sport? - 4Debate: Do they own Indian sport? - 3

M S Gill vs Suresh Kalmadi

The Sports Minister Mr M S Gill has done good to the sports by bringing in an order restricting the tenure of the heads governing the Sports bodies of the country. The present heads of sport bodies such as the Indian Olympic association headed by Suresh Kalmadi, The Lawn Tennis Association headed by Khanna, have been holding these positions for so many years and do not want to quit the post for reasons which may benefit them in more than one way!  Some persons like V K Mallhotra, Ghelot etc.. are also holding these coveted posts since long. Many such heads of sporting bodies have never played the sport governed by them!   If these senior, old men cling to these posts without being involved in the sports either by playing or even attempting  to play are hindrances for the sport to grow since long association gives rise to clouts and eventually result in politics!  The government should ask all these heads to quit honourably and pave way for the younger generation to come into the field and administration so that new ideas could be evolved and implemented?  The Indian Hockey Federation did well by throwing out K P S Gill as its head a couple of years back as he was known to favour certain players who did not excel in the sport they were representing! The dirty politics of these old men who do not want to let go their hold on the sports body because of their political clouts are only harming the game and the sports in general dampening the enthusiasm of the real Sportsmen and women.  The government will do well by extending their support to M S Gill in cleaning up the sports body throughout.
